Activities
Burgess Square's programs encompass a wide range of activities and services. These programs are planned and carried out by the care team of staff, family, residents and volunteers. They are designed to meet the needs of the residents as the resident defines them. In other words, the programs are developed with the residents, not for them. These programs help residents react and interact with their environment, which encourages them to shape their destinies and find new and satisfying social relationships. They also allow residents to be self-directing and spontaneous.
The activities coordinator directs a broad range of programs designed to support the individual interests and abilities of the residents. Current options include:
- Daily Games and Activities
- Exercise Classes
- Cooking Classes
- Arts and crafts programs
- Religious services
- Special Cultural Programming to meet the needs of our community
- Multiple monthly outings to special events
- Formal "Celebration" Dinners designed by our residents
- Animal Therapy
- Musical Events
- Massage Therapy
- Newsletter
- “Never 2 Late” interactive computer system
Volunteers are an important link between the community and the Burgess Square family. Many are involved in the activity program sharing their special talents and skills; others assist residents who have disabilities to participate in activities. Friendly volunteer visitors offer one-on-one relationships for residents. The dedicated group of volunteers is a testimony to the "family" Burgess Square has created. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please notify a staff member or the activities coordinator.
